Psychiatry under National Socialism

The so-called Third Reich ended over 70 years ago. However, the murder of psychiatric patients and people in need is still one of those chapters of the National Socialist history, which is difficult to remember and the challenging topic to society. In less than two years, between January 1940 and August 1941, over 70.000 mentally ill and handicapped people alone were murdered in central sites of so-called euthanasia inside Germany. Recent research estimates approx. 300.000 victims in consequence of all crimes of so-called euthanasia during National Socialist regime.
