The Research Unit for the History and Ethics of Medicine is associated with the direction of the scientific libraries of the Centre for Psychiatry Südwürttemberg. The scientific libraries at Ravensburg-Weissenau, Bad Schussenried, Zwiefalten and their (since 1812) systematically structured stocks of literature represent unique collections on the fields of psychiatry and psychotherapy. While the current sections of these libraries follow the requirements of modern medicine in respect to content, structural and medial way, the historical stocks are mainly available for the scientific-historiographical research. On these sites, the above mentioned stocks will be presented to the scientific community as well as to medical laypersons. Scientific Stock of the Library in Bad Schussenried:

This stock has been transmitted to Weissenau in 2015 and thus today is also located at Weissenau.
 

Scientific Stock of the Library in Zwiefalten:

The historical stock of Zwiefalten is located in the premises of the former monastery Zwiefalten – since 1812 housing a mental hospital, today the Centre of Psychiatry Südwürttemberg. The stock covers about 1.100 titles of the 19th and early 20th century. The stock of the historical library for patients covers about 3.000 titles of the 19th and early 20th century. The contemporary library Zwiefalten, that is combining the patient library with the scientific library, is to be found in the so-called “Zellenbau”, a building from the late 19th century.
 

The easier access of other psychiatric specialist libraries in Baden-Wuerttemberg for the purposes of the coordination of the historic research in Baden-Wuerttemberg for the subject in the past and present has been projected. The stocks of the scientific libraries of the Centres for Psychiatry are already visible here.
